Understanding the CMS dashboard

Dashboard Overview

The dashboard is your central hub for managing all content. When you first log in, you'll see an overview of your content and quick access to common tasks.

Pending Approvals Section

At the top of the dashboard, you'll see a yellow-highlighted card showing any content awaiting your approval. This includes:

  • Content type (News, Events, Actions, or Newsletters)
  • Title of the content
  • Who requested approval
  • Quick action buttons to approve or reject directly from the dashboard
  • View button to see the full content before making a decision

What you'll see: A prominent yellow-bordered card with approval requests. Each request shows the content type, title, and action buttons. You can approve or reject directly, or click "View" to see more details.

Quick Stats Cards

Below the approvals section, you'll see colorful stat cards showing:

  • Actions (red) - Total and published actions
  • News (blue) - Total and published news articles
  • Events (purple) - Total, published, and upcoming events
  • Newsletters (pink) - Total newsletters by status
  • Subscribers (indigo) - Newsletter subscriber counts
  • People (teal) - Total and published people profiles
  • Pages (amber) - Custom pages count
  • YCS Pending (yellow) - Pending YCS action submissions (if any)

What you'll see: A grid of colorful cards, each with an icon, label, and number. Clicking any card takes you to that section. Cards are color-coded by content type for easy recognition.

Detailed Widgets

Further down, you'll find detailed widgets for each content type showing:

  • Total count - All items (published and draft)
  • Published count - Items currently live on the website
  • Draft count - Unpublished items
  • Status-specific counts - Like "upcoming events" or "scheduled newsletters"
  • Manage button - Quick link to that section

What you'll see: Expanded cards with detailed statistics, showing breakdowns of published vs draft content, and specific status counts relevant to each content type.

Quick Actions Card

A gray card with quick action buttons to:

  • Create New Action
  • Create News Article
  • Create Event
  • Create Newsletter
  • Add Person
  • Create Page
  • Review YCS Submissions (if pending)

What you'll see: A card with multiple buttons, each with an icon and label. These provide one-click access to create new content without navigating through menus.

Notifications

The dashboard displays unread notifications at the top, including:

  • Approval requests
  • System notifications
  • Important updates

What you'll see: A bell icon with a notification count badge. Clicking shows a dropdown with recent notifications. Unread notifications are highlighted.
