News Articles
News articles are used for blog posts, announcements, and general updates.
Creating a News Article
Step 1: Open the News Tab
- Navigate to Content in the sidebar
- Click the News tab
- Click the Create New button (usually in the top-right corner)
What you'll see: A form modal or page opens with fields for creating a news article.
Step 2: Fill in Basic Information
Title (Required)
- Enter a clear, descriptive title
- This appears as the main headline
- Example: "YCW Adelaide Hosts Annual Fundraiser"
Description (Required)
- Write a brief summary (1-2 sentences)
- This appears in lists and previews
- Example: "Join us for our annual fundraiser event supporting local youth programs."
Category (Optional)
- Select or enter a category
- Common categories: "Announcements", "Updates", "Events", "News"
- Helps organize content
What you'll see: Text input fields for Title and Description, and a dropdown or text input for Category.
Step 3: Add Content
Use the Rich Text Editor to add your article content.
Step 4: Add a Featured Image
See Managing Images for details on uploading and selecting images.
Step 5: Add Tags
See Using Tags for details on adding tags.
Step 6: Set Publishing Options
See Scheduling Content for details on publishing and scheduling.
Step 7: Request Approval
Before content can be published, it must be approved:
- Click Request Approval for Publication
- Approvers will receive a notification
- You can continue editing while waiting for approval
- Once approved, content will be published (or scheduled)
What you'll see: A button labeled "Request Approval for Publication". After clicking, you'll see a confirmation message and the approval status will change to "Pending".
Step 8: Save
- Click Save or Save Draft to save your work
- Content is also auto-saved as you type
- You can close the form and return later
What you'll see: Save buttons at the bottom of the form. After saving, you'll see a success message and be returned to the content list.
Editing News Articles
- Navigate to Content > News
- Find the article in the list
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon) or click the article title
- Make your changes
- Click Save
What you'll see: The same form as when creating, but pre-filled with existing content. You can edit any field and save changes.
Important Notes:
- If the article is published, changes may require re-approval
- You can see who else is currently editing the article (presence indicators)
- Changes are saved automatically as you type
Deleting News Articles
- Navigate to Content > News
- Find the article
- Click the Delete button (trash icon)
- Confirm deletion
Warning: Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Published articles will be removed from the website immediately.
